Keeping It Real And Sustainable

The environmentally-conscious have always been looking for alternatives to eating meat that are sustainable, and we feel that. It’s always been a point of pride for us to run a sustainable practice, as well as to offer vegetarian and vegan options on our menu.

When completing the interior design of our first opening (our Campbellfield location) we focused on upcycling, using recycled pallets for the walls and seats inside. We have also placed an emphasis on recyclability when serving our products. Everything we serve our food in, including the cups for our shakes are all recyclable, and we go through the effort ensuring that they are recycled.

More recently this year, labs have been experimenting with meat substitutes, using ‘heme’, the molecule that gives beef its flavor, red color that cooks brown, and essentially just makes it behave like meat. Scientists have figured out how to extract this from certain legumes and have created a patty so similar to real beef, that supermarkets are now stocking these 0% meat products. Burger chains around Australia this year have started following suit as well, such as Hungry Jacks & Grill’d. We see the merit of this product, but we have a hard time justifying serving a fake-meat burger ourselves, because we don’t like ‘fake’.

We want to be completely honest and upfront with our customers, so instead of offering a mock version, we serve our own vegan and vegetarian options. Cultural cuisines from all over the globe, such as Middle-Eastern, Asian and European have perfected meat-free foods. From Spaghetti Napoli from Italy, to Tofu from all over Asia, to the famous falafel from the Middle East, appetites have been satisfied for hundreds of years without meat. So taking inspiration & going with tried-and-true methods, our range includes the Vegan Burgie, which includes a blended vegetable patty, fried cauliflower, our vegan mayo and tomato relish, as well as our Falafel Burgie, served with fresh white onion, pickles & hummus. Both served on a bun baked fresh daily, with baby cos lettuce.

Hume Business Awards celebrate best of the best with Campbellfield’s Burgies rising to the top

IT’S official. The burgers are better at Burgies.

The American-themed burger outlet in Campbellfield has been named the best cafe/restaurant at the Hume Business Awards.

The awards acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of local businesses and the contribution they have made to the economy and the wider community.

Burgies co-owner Ahmed Safi said they were “stoked” to take home the award, as it was a testament to the staff and their commitment to using the highest quality and freshest produce.

Mr Safi said they had gone back to the basics of the burger industry, providing handcrafted food that tasted great at an affordable price.

People come from around Melbourne for their signature products The Lava Burger (a cheese filled patty), cheese waffle fries (dripping with a melted three cheese sauce) and made-to-order thick shakes.

Mr Safi said they sourced most of their supplies from local businesses, including a baker in Campbellfield and a butcher in Somerton.

Mr Safi said while he and his brother, Ibo, were encouraged to set up the eatery in an affluent area it was always going to be in Melbourne’s north.

“We wanted to produce quality products for an area that doesn’t have that quality,” he said.

“We grew up in this area and we want to make a difference and we want to support local jobs.”

Mr Safi said they opened the outlet two years ago to challenge the fast food restaurants and food truck norms.

“It has fused together a dining experience that presents an outdoor kitchen with internal dining room and an alfresco outdoor seating,” he said.

“We wanted to make it a sustainable practice. Everything is recyclable for instance internally the walls and the seats are made out of pallets.”

Juicy Ribs

Ribs

The ribs are flying out the Burgies truck.. Why? Because they taste like real ribs should, juicy, meaty and full of this amazing textured BBQ sauce that has you licking your fingers and not worrying about who’s watching.

They at are made to perfection, and are surprising our eaters that gourmet can be produced in a food truck. What we are enjoying seeing more than anything is the sharing that takes place when they are ordered, an entree of sorts.. But then another two orders occur to share.. We don’t judge we just help with the foodies eating dream.

Enjoy
